Phoenix Harris

Electrical Engineer

Phoenix Harris is a Research Engineer at Vanderbilt University's Institute for Space and Defense Electronics (ISDE) and a master's student in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She earned her bachelor's degree in Physics and Astronomy and is passionate about astrophysics, mission design, space exploration, and space instrumentation.

After completing MCA in summer of 2022, Phoenix has contributed to mission concept development while building experience in systems engineering, team collaboration, and technical communication. Her work at ISDE involves radiation effects testing on microelectronics for space applications, operating particle accelerator and X-ray systems, and supporting microelectronics research. She is especially interested in lunar science and the future of space exploration through missions like LILA, a NASA APRA funded lunar gravitational wave project.

As a mentor, Phoenix hopes to help students feel encouraged, capable, and excited about pursuing careers in the space industry. She values curiosity, creativity, and interdisciplinary thinking, and enjoys supporting students as they grow throughout the program.

Outside of engineering and mentoring, Phoenix enjoys gardening, cooking, yoga, ballet, and crochet. She is always excited to learn something new.
