The NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience surpassed my expectations in the best way. The program is structured to foster engagement - not just as an observer of the proposal-writing process, but as an active contributor. My biggest takeaway from the L’SPACE Program is that you can make a name for yourself in the aerospace industry despite not attending a traditional, well-established aerospace university. Through L'SPACE, I was able to attend presentations by aerospace industry professionals and develop legitimate NASA-standard proposals and mission concepts with teams of other motivated students, gaining a laundry list of invaluable skills and knowledge in the process. Given the nascency of aerospace at my university and the fact that aerospace is a highly-competitive field for internships, the L’SPACE Program was the pivotal experience I needed in becoming a competitive applicant within the aerospace field.

L’SPACE has been an incredibly transformative experience for me. It cultivates an environment where research-driven thinking and grand scientific curiosity are not only expected but encouraged. Coming from a background primarily rooted in computational physics, L’SPACE brought me out of that shell and reintroduced me to the applied, mission-architecture side of planetary research. Even beyond the live sessions, guest speakers like Dr. Paul Hayne were kind enough to share external journals and research articles so I could further explore topics like perfectly stirred reactor (PSR) thermodynamics and volatile sequestration. That willingness to engage at a deeper academic level reflects the culture of L’SPACE.

L'SPACE prepared me for the workforce by putting me in an environment where it was necessary that I implement team management, create a schedule to meet deadlines, have mitigation plans in place in case of setbacks, conduct extensive research to provide a strong science foundation in our mission development, and meet customer requirements.
